A Federação Portuguesa de Atletismo (FPA) organizou um jantar de gala no Casino do Estoril, no salão Preto e Prata, para comemorar o centenário da sua fundação, e propôs às associações do país que nomeassem quatro individualidades que se tenham distinguido ao longo do século ao serviço do atletismo, nas categorias de “Dirigente”, “Treinador”, “Atleta” e “Juiz Árbitro”.
O valeguense Martinho Costa Oliveira Tavares foi nomeado como “Juiz Árbitro do Centenário” pela Associação de Atletismo de Aveiro tendo, juntamente com os atletas medalhados, recebido o prémio das mãos dos dirigentes da FPA, liderada por Jorge António de Campos Vieira, no passado dia 18 de dezembro.
Martinho Costa Oliveira Tavares ingressou, em 1984, no mundo do atletismo como “Juiz Nacional”, tendo, em 2004, ascendido à categoria de “Juiz Árbitro”. Há 37 anos que presta ‘pro bono’, de forma apaixonada, dedicada e empenhada, um trabalho inestimável em prol do atletismo português.
Várias entidades estiveram presentes na referida gala, com destaque para o Ministro da Educação, Tiago Brandão Rodrigues, o Secretário da Juventude e do Desporto, João Paulo Rebelo, o Presidente do Instituto Português do Desporto e Juventude, I.P. (IPDJ), Vítor Pataco, e o Presidente do Comité Olímpico Português, José Manuel Constantino, entre outras personalidades.
O evento foi apresentado pelo jornalista e pivô da SIC, João Moleira, e pela atriz e apresentadora do programa Fama Show da SIC, Raquel Sampaio. Rosa Mota foi distinguida como a “Atleta Feminina do Centenário”. Como “Atleta Masculino do Centenário”, foi eleito Carlos Lopes.
